Based on technology platforms that Liquavista has developed, electrowetting
display products offer a major breakthrough in a wide variety of markets.
Liquavista currently targets the booming eReader space,
where electrowetting displays offer vastly improved usability, content
compatibility and cost compared with first generation
electronic paper technologies.
To address this market Liquavista is developing three technology platforms
(LiquavistaBright™, LiquavistaColor™ and LiquavistaVivid™)
planned for product implementation throughout 2010/2011.
Besides eReaders, electrowetting display technology can be used
in all contemporary display applications, such as mobile
phones and notebooks, thanks to it being able
to operate in reflective, transmissive or transflective modes.
Smooth and Fast eReader Interface
The first technology platform, LiquavistaBright,
will enable a smooth and fast user interface on
eReader devices, thanks to the inherent video capability.
Being able to move and scroll the content seamlessly will
allow consumers to have a fully featured UI and significantly larger
effective screen. In addition, these displays will be brighter and
have more contrast than current solutions.
Introducing Color
The next step, introducing color, to further expand the
use of eReaders beyond just reading books will be provided
by the second platform, LiquavistaColor.
Based on the LiquavistaBright architecture, this platform adds a color
filter to create full color displays, analogous to LCD’s
but with 2x, 3x or 4x the optical performance. The resulting
color performance is world-class in reflective displays.
High Optical Performance for Portable Multimedia Devices
The third platform, LiquavistaVivid,
combines the high optical performance of a monochrome
display with the highly saturated color performance that
people are used to from TV screens, all on a low power eReader.
As a result, eReaders will be able to converge with other application
areas and become fully interactive multi-media portable devices with
a full set of features and functionality.
